A mix of 3 parts sawdust and 1 part sand makes a great growing medium. It has no nutrients so you will need to put 2-3 inches of compost on top or use something like the weekly feed I describe in an earlier post.

You might be looking for a needle in a haystack. I use a pickup truck to haul sand from the quarry and topsoil from the nurseries and place it in layers in the bed. That way I only have to shovel it once and I can place the truck right next to the bed to unload it.

I am looking for some one who can deliver and find topsoil mixed with river sand. My neighbor used to garden with this mixture and he had a awesome garden ! I plan to be making a above ground garden within a week and could use this real soon, thanks !
