How old is the washing machine? If under warenty, I would return it. This happened to me and returned it, and they gave me a choice on any washer in the store. Circuit City

i don't see any reason that you couldn't sand it and paint it, its not going to be the prettiest thing . it should stop it from rusting a few more years just don't let anymore rust/grit/dust get down into your washer that you can help. vacuum or blow it away and wipe it clean before you paint the plastic bleach dispenser thingy should pop right out with your fingers or a flat screw driver a spray can of primer & gloss paint ( i would just use the primer it will probably outlast the washer) and a sheet of sand paper $4.00-$8.00 ish ? masking tape and newspaper another $1.00 .10-15 minutes tops + drying time

I have a washer that works fine, but it has an area at the top right front that you pour bleach into. Around that area is horribly rusted and once in awhile I will see small rust spots on my white sheets and I figure it came from this..even though the sheets don't actually touch that part. It's just a couple of spots once in awhile that are pretty tiny...maybe the size of lady bug for example. Can I sand that area and spray paint with a rust spray paint or is that a crazy idea? I don't want to get a new washer. Any suggestions to get that rust off the bleach dispenser area? It's like rusted and raised in that area. Almost like it is deteriorating.
