Sadly, Basking is right. Way too many times did I see an athlete be given a free pass on homework and tests, just because they were an athlete.
That's not just a Wilkes thing, though, it's rampant nationwide in both high school and college. And the kids are the ones that are really cheated, because they get a bad education. They still get the same diploma or degree as everyone else, but after the game is over they can't get a job because they lack the basic knowledge.

When you take in to consideration that our omnipotent legislature has mandated a new 10 point grading scale for everyone...perks already being offered to EVERYONE! Evidently there is some politician's kid that needed a better GPA.

Honestly though, a "C" student is going to be a "C" student regardless if they play ball or not.

Didn't any of you ever make it to high school? Athletes only have to maintain a c average and the better the player the more teachers gave them passes on their grades

Playing sports will not make anyone illiterate. If you cannot juggle practice and games with school work, then how do you expect them to make it in the real world? And honestly, the kids that don't play sports aren't all little genius's that sit at home and do school work until bedtime, lol. Nothing wrong with an active child. If you are going to be illiterate because you play sports, then let's face it- they were going to be illiterate anyway.

Basking, you IDtenT, I'm sure that student athletes must maintain their academic elligability to play sports and furthermore, moving the game up one night would certainly not make them illiterate.

Don't know about nowadays, but when I was in school student athletes had better GPA's than non-athletes. That should equate to reading and writing better......wouldn't you think?

Sure, if you don't consider athletes not being able to read or write an adverse effect

It's a good thing the schools do NOT use your logic as an example there, basks. Football is the only sport confined to Friday nights on a regular schedule. All the other sports have games, matches and meets throughout the week with no adverse effects. If this game was moved to Thursday to avoid a rainout, the students can take a lesson in prudent thought.

Yeah, that's what's important! Who wo the football game in the middle of the week instead of the kids doing their homework. No wonder Wilkes county is in such a **** hole
