i have access and can get to other sites? i have acces to both student & guest WI-Fi

Forget AOL, can you get to any websites on their wifi? Can you get to Google, or Yahoo?

They may block certain sites and services, like AOL. But I'm guessing you might not even be getting on the web. Is wifi access password protected?
