So just to confirm. Nothing shows on the screen? Not even a big Dell Logo? If the Dell Logo shows does it just turn off with no led light for the power button or does it give an error? If you see a Dell Logo after trying to charge it for an hour or so and it just shuts down after showing the logo or if it isn't turning on at all then it may be overheating. Feel the bottom of the laptop to see how hot the battery is. You may need a new battery or possibly just a new AC Adapter will fix a simple charging issue you may have.
From your initial post it seems you have indeed had no led's on but the media light when pressing the power on button and nothing at all shows on screen. If this is verified to be 100% true after charging for an hour or so with the charger you normally use then I would suggest trying an alternate ac adapter. If the AC Adapter doesn't fix the problem you may have a bad battery, mobo or even processor.
If it is a heating problem then the computer will shut itself down to prevent damage to components. Did it ever blue screen before this happened? Because of this new safety feature in modern processor's I highly doubt the CPU (Processor) ~brain of the PC~ is fried. Try out these suggestions and just call me @ 336-981-4157 if neither of them work. I am a PC Technician. I do great work at low rates. Check my website @ www.mypctechoncall.com.
