It's also possible that something or things are consuming your memory resources.
Might be a good idea to try another browser too just to see if it is FF that is consuming your resources.

how big are the pictures that you're trying to send? Some web clients will time out if the picture is to large. Try lowering the size on the picture(s) and see if it'll send that way. What email provider are you using?

Are you using a web mail account like gmail? or are you sending email from your ISP account? ( charter clearwire ect)
If you are using your ISP address sign up for a free email account. Most ISP mail servers have low size limits on email accounts. timing out is common

 I ATTACH A PICTURE TO EMAIL & IT WILL LET ME ATTACH ONLY ONE. IT TIMES OUT IF I ATTEMPT TO SEND 2 OR MORE TO THE SAME EMAIL ADDRESS. BREAK IT TO ME GENTLY...I'M AS SLOW AS MY COMPUTER!! IT'S A DELL, WINDOWS VISTA, WITH MOZILLA FIREFOX INSTALLED.
