Friends,
It's April 15th, which means it's Tax Day. Thanks to the Trump Tax Cuts that I proudly worked to pass in 2017, North Carolinians have been giving less of their hard-earned money to the IRS.
Unfortunately, due to procedural restraints, these tax cuts are set to automatically expire at the end of the year. That means more than 62% of all taxpayers and more than 90% of small businesses will be hit with a tax hike unless Congress acts to extend the tax cuts.
Here are the consequences of failure:
Individual tax rates would increase. The standard deduction would decrease. The Child Tax Credit would be cut in half per child.
While Democrats are content with seeing the majority of Americans pay higher taxes, President Trump and I are not okay with that. That's why last week, I supported a Senate budget resolution that gets the "reconciliation" process started so we can extend the Trump Tax Cuts and provide even more relief to North Carolina families and businesses.
This will provide much-needed help and certainty for our economy, which was dragged down by four years of Biden's out-of-control inflationary spending.
However, passing this tax cut reconciliation bill isn't going to be easy with such razor-thin margins in the Senate and House. It is vital that we stay united and support President Trump's push for tax relief. Failure is simply not an option. It's time for Republicans to work together and get this done on behalf of hardworking taxpayers like you. -- Senator Thom Tillis
