Most of the entry level mowers from the box stores are made by MTD, incl. cub cadet. JD has their own ***y plant, but uses components from everywhere overseas.
Designed for a price.
The commercial models cost more have more durable expensive components.
An acre's not that much, to justify a fancy mower unless you want it.
Most people don't take care of the mowers. Park outside in the weather, don't change oil, drain or stabilize the gas in winter, blow off the wet grass each time, sharpen the blades, etc.
These habits can make a cheap mower last decades.

Until you get into the commercial ones, most of all your riders are made by the same company.

About an acre.
Don't see how that matters.

How many acres do you mow?
How much did your current motor vehicle cost and is it paid for?
Will you be doing the mowing?
Mow along steep drop-offs, ditches, ponds, rivers, streams, creeks or lakes?
Well drained?
Any rocks, stumps or gravestones.?
How long does it take to trim the property?
Are there usually a lot of yellow jacket nests or mole tunnels?
Do you chop the fall leaves up or bag them?
I think I'll wait and see if you answer these before I continue.

Which is the best? Better mower & best for the money? I'm looking to buy & can't decide between John Deere or Cub Cadet.
