Be sure to keep the weeds out until you get your runners going. If you dont the weeds will take over. like slacking said straw or multch will help alot, you can put a few layers of news paper under it also. Once you get runners it will make it harder for the weeds to get in. You can thin them out the following spring and transplant them to make your strawberry garden bigger. I hope this helps.

Hi, most people mulch with wheat straw but I am using hardwood chips to preserve moisture. A fertilizer with higher levels of Phosphorus & Potash is preferred.

Good luck and strawberries usually go dormant in hot weather.

Is it ok to use 10-10-10 with my strawberries and how often?

Also,what is the best mulch to put around them?
My soil is clay mostly. Thanks for any information.
