One of the Grubb dream team has already been sent home for the year Wonder how many others may follow before the year is over?.

Well yeah, this year's team actually has talent on it and not a bunch of seniors he has to play because their parents will get mad.

Grubb says this is the team he has been looking for. This shows no respect for his former players and from what I here they are all upset at this remark . But what can you except its GRUBB.

Coach Grubb also never had the talent Coach Payne did either. Don't leave that part out.

Nobody is trying to compare Grubb and Payne, thats not even close to a comparison, Marc is one of the best prep coaches the game has ever seen in this state.

People that don't like Grubb will have to hope that the school board ousts him. Otherwise, he won't get fired and he won't quit.

Wasn't Adam Sadler a water boy too?? Means nothing coach Smith knew everyone by name And spoke to alll the parents he would be appalled by the arrogance of Scott Grubb Being a water boy doesn't require a lot of talent...

Coach Grubb might know basketball But his arrogant behavior doesn't help his program or the school ..he will never have the support Coach Payne had Did u notice how Ashe fans emptied after varsity girls game ..made it a lot cooler on that hot gym!! The county does not support the varsity boys like they used to...and his behavior is why...he only speaks to people who have helped his cause..Coach Payne He doesn't acknowledge players Or fans ..

Actually fan4life I barely know him. I am however capable of evaluating people that can teach the game of basketball. And the fact is he knows the game and puts the time in. Just get a little tired of the constant bashing from people that have no idea what it is like to be a varsity coach in any sport at any school. I will gladly stand up for any coach that I think does a good job, and I will not apologize for that.

I have always considered our schools to be sister schools, and will always wish your school nothing but the best no matter where the future takes you. Sorry for my defensive nature, but because of the relationship between the schools and my respect for not only the school but particularly the coach, I have trouble with the opinions that the only problem is the coach. Again better times are coming. Don't shoot yourself in the foot as close as the program is to success. I did find the point that I read earlier about people even talking about coach Hampton. Just goes to show you that even having a successful season will not protect you from the idle comments of disgruntled parents. Being a varsity coach is a very challenging job, and replacing a legend makes that job 10 times harder. We can agree to disagree but I will continue to feel that you have one of the upper echelon coaches in the conference, given an opportunity he will provide the program that most are looking for. But even then there will be people that will not be happy. Its just the way it is. We have been through some very lean years in the past at Alleghany. The same guy that was working through those lean years is at the helm of the best 2 year stretch that the school has ever saw. Give Grubb that chance success will return

All I am saying is I have been to every game and I feel bad for the seniors. I also for bad for the coach for not changing his ways after 3 or so years of head coaching. Thought he would have learned by now.

One of those 6'7'' guys had an injury for part of the season and missed all of the preseason practices, I don't know why he would have expected to just be handed playing time?

I'm not saying Grubb is a great coach, personally I'd run the entire offense through James Bittle and let him carry the team. But we all know how well that would go over in Ashe County, running the offense through a kid whose parents aren't in the booster club and aren't wealthy.

It's not all the coaching staff's fault. It's hard to combat daddy ball, entitled kids and whiny parents in prep sports. I heard people complaining about Hampton during football season. It's sad really, but happens in every area.

Have at it guys, I have tried to present a logical, unemotional side to an issue to get people to open their eyes to the truth. If you are not interested in logic and lack of emotion then do whatever you choose to do. I am not sure why I have cared anyway. Allowing you guys to belly ache to the point that you lose Grubb will only help the team that matters most to me anyway. Have at it its your community not mine.

I am curious though why would those 6'7 guys that you refer to be planning on quitting. Playing Time? System? Facilities? Color of the uniforms? Your reply will be they don't like Grubb. Why don't they like him? I love specific problems because they can always be addressed it is the vague ones that are the problem.

oldblueridge- Next year when he looses almost his whole starting lineup, then his two 6' 7" junior centers quit along with who ever else decides to, he is going to be hurting. and no one said someones daddy is complaining about his kids playing time. You already said you are an Alleghany fan and are looking at this from an "outsiders perspective". Which is very clear or you wouldn't make statements like "He is one of the best planners in the conference" As you may remember Ashe ran a 3-2 zone defense when they played at Alleghany and gave up probably 30 offence rebounds because Ashe had its two smallest guards boxing out 2 of the best big men in the conference.

The views here really amaze me. You are fortunate to have of the very best coaches in the conference, and with a win Friday you will finish 3rd in the MVC, and I personally think that is an outstanding result with the current talent pool. The only teams that will finish ahead of Ashe this year will be the #3 and #6 1a teams in the state. The sky is not falling, it has not been a bad year. There has just been 2 really good 1a teams in this conference for the last couple of years. Ashe will be one of the teams with a real chance to win the conference next year, along with West Wilkes and Alleghany. Be patient, there are good things happening, and I am sorry but just because there are kids and their daddies that are not happy with their playing time, does not mean that Scott Grubb is a bad coach.

That may be the case, but they looked very good last night against Wilkes Central.

OldBlueRidge; "you guys should be pleased to have a coach of his caliber" you must be kidding me. Grubb is awful.

Badguy: "Nobody has quit the team that I know of this year, so that's a start I guess" - Watch how many come back next year. Those young kids do not like him at all. They all hate him, but were raised not to quit mid season. All those tall boys that are younger hate him. Richardson, James, and that Moore boy.

The coach has talent now, you can make the case that he didn't before if you want to. But if you watch the games, you watch some of his best players sit on the bench the entire game. I bet these seniors wish they had never played basketball their senior years. I know his past players feel that way.

I believe Coach Furches had health issues, that's why he's not coaching.

Daniel is coaching College ball so I seriously doubt he has any interest in this job. I look for it to be somebody we have no idea about.
