Hi, it sounds like you may have some Malware affecting your web page navigation.
Go to http://download.cnet.com/ and download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (free version). Install it, run the update, then run the scan, remove all that it finds. After that you should close then restart your browser and try getting to Facebook.
If that doesn't work, your may have corrupt temporary interent files. So, in your browser, go to Tools (top left area) then select Internet Options, click on Delete browser history. When the next menu box comes up, be sure the delete temporary internet files is mark and click DELETE. Restart your browser and try Facebook again.
Good luck.

One other thing I thought of.. Our PC wouldn't load facebook using windows internet explorer so we now use google chrome and have no issues at all.

There several problems that can cause this. Vista is a very finicky OS. Be sure that you have the latest updates for Vista. Your antivirus program could also cause this problem. Some antivirus programs do not like certain sites and can cause a shut down. If you have more than 1 antivirus programs on your computer this will cause a problem with loading certain websites. also anti- malware, adware and spyware programs will cause problems loading certain sites. It sounds like a program conflict but as you see there are several things that can cause this. Was there anything that was changed on your computer just before this problem occurred?

Is it only shutting down when you use facebook or other applications as well? Have you tried googling about it? I ask because I recently ran into problems with mine. Was right out the door practically to have it fixed and found out it wasnt what they tech said and I could fix it myself. GOOD LUCK!
