its a power converter/transformer .. you can get a power strip for about $5.00 with a switch on it so you don't have to crawl under or behind whatever you have your pc on to cut the power .
i don't like leaving converters/transformers plugged in either seems like its a fire hazard

It also came with a power pack that looks like it would go with a laptop. It gets really hot to the touch after an hour of use. I unplug it at night because its still pulling power even if computer is off. I was wandering if I could replace the power cord without one that does not use a power pack because this is a desk top.

My PLANAR moniter does not have sound. I think it needs an audio cord. However, it only has usb type outlets on the back that are still available.

Is there anyone out there that sells used cords for computers , like power cords and audio cords?
