I run Acrobat Pro 9. It takes less than 2 seconds to open. Of course I'm not running windows either.

I'm glad that helped. I don't know what Adobe is thinking with their Reader program. When you have to wait ten, fifteen, seconds or more for a program to open up just to read a simple document, that's ridiculous. There's no reason for Reader to be that bloated. Foxit proves that it can be done much better, and faster!

Absolutely not. No damage can come to your files from uninstalling Adobe Reader, and installing Foxit.

Uninstall Adobe Reader, and install Foxit Reader. Trust me...you'll be glad you did. Foxit is free, far simpler, uses far less resources, and opens PDF files far faster than Adobe Reader.
One of the kindest things you can do for your computer, and yourself, is GET READ OF ADOBE READER!
Go to any of the free download sites http://www.download.com or http://www.tucows.com and search for "Foxit Reader". Install that puppy (after uninstalling Adobe Reader) and pat yourself on the back. You've done well!

In the last few weeks, everytime I go to a pdf file, my computer freezes for a several minutes when I try to leave the file, and then I can use it normally with no problem. Whats going on and what can I do to prevent this.
