Your system may be to old ,old video drivers may be out of date , or you may have adware slowing down your system. And yes DSL even with a 500 K will do this .If you have your update OS on everything sould be updated .In other words there could be a lot of things that could be wrong.Things to give out for help, CPU speed ,video card type ,DSL speed ,OS like windows XP or 2000 ,ect. When all fails go to system tools and system restore and pick a time when everything worked and restore your system.

And you have Windows XP ????
Open media player click on help tab go down to About Windows Media Player click it and it will tell you what version.
the newest one is version 12.7600.16415 .
you can go to http://www.microsoft.com/do...tegoryid=4 to get a patch with Windows Media Components for QuickTime you can play Windows Media files (.wma and .wmv) directly in QuickTime Player
or up date your Windows Media Player
If you like you can E-Mail me at [email protected]

Update your Video player
If a video doesn't play continuously, it may be due to your connection speed. You'll need a broadband connection with at least 500+Kbps for the best viewing experience.
Another possible reason for choppy video playback is that the servers are experiencing high traffic.
It's also possible that your video download speed is slow or inconsistent. In this case, you can try pausing the video until the entire stream is downloaded and then playing the video. Occasionally, an incomplete copy of a video can get stuck in your cache and never fully download. You can re-attempt the download by clearing your browser's cache.
Ck. your codes
But not knowing what player or windows you are running only a guesses.
