You need
A router with wifi built in. Hint your router should have antennas.

I wireless ready laptop or desktop.
New laptops have wifi cards built in
A desktop will require a network interface card with wifi.

No, you don't have to have a desktop. I think that it might depend on the router (I seem to remember having to have a desktop a long time ago), but I'm currently using a NetGear N600 with 2 laptops, both connected wirelessly.

Do you have to have a desk top computer to have wireless internet in your home? I have a modem and router is that all I need?
