When using any device past the modem, your connection will also slow down a bit and get spotty. Once you have bought a nice wireless router (N is the best for gaming and multiple devices. Around $90), then you hook the modem into the router, set it up, and then you have wireless internet available. Now just hook up the additonal devices to the router and plug and play.
Aslo, you can hit a bandwidth limit, and your connection will drop for a moment while using many devices at once.

Are you sure it is a router and not a switch?
Well new wireless routers also have 4 or 5 wired ports as well It is easiest to pay the 20 buck and have a new G router

so i have a modem connected to a wired router. how could i set up a wireless connection along with the wired router?
we also have a ps3 running off the wired connection.
basically, i only want wifi at home for our mobile phones. i want the desktop and ps3 to stay wired.
