Democrats should be as happy as republicans about the tariffs.

@sal. Trump is doing what every President has said they would do for the last 40 years. He knows the next President will not have the guts to do what he is doing. Time is limited. Unfortunately, chaos is the only way to try to change the status quo.

Democrats are not happy when America wins. We want to be like China and under Biden's leadership we were on our way.

So, say a business manufacturing toys relocates in the US. It may take 2 - 4 years. In the meantime, all of the raw materials come from several countries, some not produced in the US. While this is being sorted out, tariffs need to be paid, money that could be used for the relocation.

Are the raw material suppliers going to move to the US too? Can they all afford it?

It wasnt chaos all at once and a back and forth like this "to tariff or not to tariff" non sense.

May have a different definition of chaos.

I seem to remember a lot of chaos when all the manufacturing moved out of Wilkes and the rest of NC. A lot of people struggled.

Tariffs are fine.
Causing chaos with tariffs and blanket tariffing the whole world (even the penguins) haphazardly and seemingly having no plan makes no sense.

Big Sal, if you consider that maybe the whole point is to cause chaos, it makes more sense. So so so many red flags over the past 30 years vis à vis Trump and Russia...

They just moved to Mexico just move back. It's that easy.

FreeRange, a lot of small manufacturers can't afford to relocate. These tariffs are putting folks in a major bind. I would love to see jobs come back, but it is way too disorganized. You can't just pick up a supply chain and move it, nor a factory. That's what I was saying on the other thread where we were talking about OSHA and the workers' protections that exist here.

Which companies are you talking about? I know that Hyundai said they would eat the cost for a month, but are cutting services to offset the loss.

What I'm seeing are small businesses suffering because they are unable to eat the extra cost. And empty ports, with retailers warning of major shortages.

Major corporations are saying that they will pay for the tariffs and not raise prices. Isn't that what democrats have been wanting to happen? Corporations paying more and US companies have a better chance to manufacture in the US. It's the best of both worlds.
