WXII stated that the pictures he took were not full body or full face pics. Antithesis is probably right. He was probably taking photos of a sexual nature.

Taking pictures of anyone in a public setting is perfectly legal. For him to have been charged with sexual exploitation, I assumed that he must have been taking upskirts or something.
The definition of the law says that the minor would be engaging in some sort of sexual activity:
A person commits the offense of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor if, knowing the character or content of the material, he possesses material that contains a visual representation of a minor engaging in sexual activity.

Maybe the problem was the angle from which he took the pictures.....maybe the pics focused on body parts. Somebody at the drug store saw the pics and became suspicious.
Anyway, glad the perp was nabbed.

He took pictures of little girls without permission. Correct?
That happens a lot. Parents at a ballgame inadvertently take pics of other peoples kids all the time. School play - pics taken everywhere. No one gets permission. Field trips. Chorus performances. I could go on.... Got to be more to this story.

I know this may be a dumb question.....but maybe the article should be a tad more clear....did he just have photo's of girls in a cafeteria? Like eating in a cafeteria.....or sitting in a cafeteria...? I mean if he had inappropriate pictures of girls in a cafeteria....then....HOW?

So he was taking pictures of girls while at school? I think we can agree what's probably going on in his mind, but did he really violate a law?

A voluntary teaching assistant has been charged with a sex crime.
Walter Otto Schorer, 75, or 3304 Buena Vista Road in Winston-Salem is charged with one count of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
He was a voluntary assistant at Diggs-Latham Elementary School, police said.
Law enforcement received information on Sept. 23 that a customer printed photos of elementary-aged females in a school cafeteria at a photo machine at a Winston-Salem drug store, police said.
Investigators identified the customer as Schorer, police said, and the school in the photos as Diggs-Latham Elementary.
It's unclear if parents at Diggs-Latham have been contacted about the incident. A call to the school system was not immediately returned.
Detectives executed a search warrant at Schorer's house on Sept. 24 and seized electronic devices and photos of prepubescent females, police said.
He was arrested and charged today, and was released on a written promise to appear in court.
